The week in brief — deploying AI isn't enough: rethink what you do with it

September 11, 2026

Three signals converged this week. A bank cut 45 jobs thanks to a customer-service AI — then reversed course when quality slipped. 94% of companies use AI only to optimize what already exists, almost none to create new revenue. And a pilot that works never scales on its own: industrialization is a project in itself. Even the technology has limits — computer vision, brilliant on what it knows, breaks down outside it.

The through-line: value doesn't come from deploying AI, but from rethinking what you do with it — roles, revenue, industrialization — while keeping humans on its blind spots. This week, take one AI use already in place and give it a value target (a revenue, a lead time, an industrialization), not just a usage target.
